After tuning in to watch tonight’s new episode of My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now, fans of the TLC series might be looking for a 2021 update on Justin McSwain and his weight loss journey. Justin was a huge success story for Dr. Now losing over 450 pounds. Tonight, fans of My 600-Lb. Life will get an update on how Justin is doing since his time on the show.
Justin McSwain: Where It Began
Justin McSwain was in his late 20’s when he appeared on Season 7 of the show. He hailed all the way from South Carolina. “Doing normal things and having a normal day is just not something that’s possible for me anymore,” he sadly admitted to viewers at home.
Over the course of four years, Justin gained nearly 400 pounds. He weighed in at 687.5 lbs. Justin reached a point where he struggled to walk around. He also developed anxiety and agoraphobia thanks to his weight that prevented him from leaving his home.
My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now
During tonight’s episode of My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now, Justin is definitely the success story of the episode. While the other personality featured — Maja Radanovic — did not exactly fail… She didn’t have the same incredible success as Justin either.
As the episode progresses, Justin successfully drops 450 pounds. He admits he feels like a whole person. Justin is finally able to live the life he feels like food took from him. To keep from going back to what he was, he continues to challenge himself to do new things. This includes taking lessons to become a pilot. He admits his family is big on aviation. But, he was always too large to join in this family passion. So, he’s happy to finally be a part of this portion of his family story.
What About His Relationship With His Parents?
Justin McSwain admits he also learned that being related to someone doesn’t mean they have to be in your life. In some cases, a person is just toxic. Letting a person into your life that isn’t good for you can just hurt you. So, he put some real distance between himself and his mother. Which turned out to be a great thing for him.
Even his proud father admits his son has worked hard. At every doctor’s appointment, his dad admits his son met the weight loss goals Dr. Now set for him every single time. He did come in at 253 pounds when Dr. Now wanted him at 250 for the skin removal. But, he decided to move forward with the skin removal anyway. He ended up removing nearly 22 pounds of skin from Justin’s body during the first surgery.
They all acknowledged the skin removal surgery and recovery would be rough. He would likely have to have several surgeries. Oh, and, he would lose his belly button. But, he jestingly admitted to Dr. Now he didn’t really use his belly button for anything. So, it wasn’t a huge loss.
Unfortunately, it also sounds as if he doesn’t have a huge relationship with his father either. Justin notes they got along great during the weight loss journey. They, however, only seem to work well when they have a project to work on. Beyond that, they don’t connect much. But, he’s found a way to be alright with this.
