Foods like meat or dairy are essential for bone health, says this study in reference to vegan diets.
For years every diet vegan has been subjected to multiple studies to determine whether they are counterproductive or beneficial to health. Some have shown positive results. While others, like the one we detail below, expose their negative data.
In detail, this specific study shows that vegan diets compromise bone health. They explain that meat and dairy, all foods that come from animals, have specific components that strengthen bone pieces.
The research was promoted by scientists from the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BFR). They explained that following a vegan diet increases the risk of fractures, the Daily Mail reported.
Risks of following a vegan diet
The study of this German institute was simple and somewhat reduced. However, it took the same number of people from each group (vegans and non-vegans), to have their bones tested. There were a total of 36 from each group, subjected to ultrasound.
Consequently, the majority of those who follow a vegan diet, had worse state of their bones. The explanation given by the scientists was that they do not have the nutrients offered by foods that come from animals.
« Scientific evidence suggests that a vegan or vegetarian diet can protect against many chronic diseases. For example, diabetes and cardiovascular disease or cancer. However, a vegan diet was found to be associated with lower bone mineral density. This is associated with a higher risk of fracture, compared to omnivores, « he said Andreas Hensel, president of the BFR.
