Adele, 32, is a singer-songwriter who is known for her incredible voice and impressive songwriting abilities. She has recently slimmed down, and a fitness expert has shared an insight of some of the diet and exercise plans she may have used to do so.
How did Adele lose weight?
Adele’s new look has attracted lots of attention as the singer has clearly made changes to her lifestyle.
She addressed her slimmer frame during an appearance on Saturday Night Live in October last year.
Speaking on the TV show, she said: “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me.
“But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions… I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me. And this is the half I chose.”
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Daniel Herman, CEO of Bio-Synergy, said a change to her diet and exercise probably helped her lose weight.
He suggested she may have used intermittent fasting and exercises such as pilates to lose weight.
Daniel claimed: “Based on the dramatic change it would seem an intermittent fasting diet along with an increase in exercise – possibly pilates or yoga – would have been the most likely plan followed by Adele.
“To assist her, she may have also used insights from a DNA test to reveal any dietary deficiencies or underlying health issues, perhaps around gut health and to understand what type of exercise and foods would work best for her, based on her genetics.
“Based on clients that I have worked with, I would guesstimate [a weight loss] of between 10 to 12 stone.”
While Adele has not spoken publicly about the changes she made to her diet plan, it has been widely reported intermittent fasting played a part.
What is intermittent fasting?
Those who use an intermittent fasting plan will limit when they eat, rather than how much they eat.
A popular version of the diet is the 16/8 plan, which requires fasting for 16 hours a day and eating within an eight hour window.
The 5:2 diet is also often used and sees slimmers restrict how much they eat two days of the week, and eat freely on the other five.
Daniel explained how the diet plan can help aid weight loss and outlined some of the most popular methods.
He stated: “In general, there’s some evidence fasting has great benefits like weight loss, better digestion and slower aging.
“Intermittent fasting cycles between fasting and eating. We all fast every day, but ‘break’ the fast by eating breakfast.
“But many people do the 16/8 method, which restricts food intake for 16 hours and allows eating during an eight hour window.
“Alternate day fasting is done every other day. It’s a form of one-day fasting.
“Eat-stop-eat is a method where you fast for 24 hours once or twice a week.
“Periodic fasting is where food intake is restricted for a set number of days, such as a three-day fast once a month.”
He added: “A key reason why IF has been shown to be an effective nutritional strategy for fat loss and body composition improvement is because the fasting periods of any IF protocol help to ensure that an energy deficit is being enforced.”
It is thought strength training such as pilates has helped Adele tone up, with pilates instructor Camila Goodis revealing she was previously employed by the star.
Daniel claimed Adele’s transformation could have been helped with similar exercises.
He continued: “Having not met [Adele], it is hard to say for definite what she did, however over the last 23 years I have worked with lots of women and men who – in addition to wanting to improve their health – have looked to reduce their body fat percentage.
“As a general rule, any activity that includes strengthening the core and increasing lean muscle will increase an individual’s metabolic rate, allowing them to burn fat more efficiently, additionally women are at higher risk of osteoporosis and resistance training can help combat this.
“Pilates, yoga, HIIT training, swimming and weight training are all great, especially combined with some cardio.”
